STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) or STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) is a term used to describe a condition that passes from one individual to another through sexual contact. The infection or disease can be contracted from one person to another by having unprotected sex of the vaginal, oral or anal nature with someone who has an STD.

STD and life insurance

It is important to remember that all life insurance applications are underwritten on a case to case basis and the outcome for each policy even if the basic details of the application match will be different.

There are a lot of factors that will affect the cost of your insurance policy. Some of them are listed below:

  • The type of STI you have
  • The details of your diagnosis
  • Any treatment and medication you are taking or have taken to deal with the condition
  • If you have been given the all-clear
  • Any lifestyle changes you may have had to make to accommodate the changes caused by the medical condition

We understand that talking about you STIs can be difficult and embarrassing; however, we must encourage you to answer all of these questions with utmost honesty and disclose all relevant information at the time of insurance application to avoid any problem at the time of insurance claim.

The outcome

Now there is a certain STIs that are short term and can be cured with adequate medical treatment, there are also some other diseases transmitted sexually of a more permanent nature and the microorganisms that cause the condition remain in the body of the patient rather permanently.

If you have fully recovered from your STI and have been given the all-clear and it has been more than six months since your last date of treatment you should be able to purchase the life insurance policy of your choice at standard rates of premium.

If you have other infections that remain in the body of the patient then your insurance application may require further evaluation and you may need to provide more information about your medical condition.

If your condition is well under control and manageable then you can get life insurance under standard terms of premium.

In case of moderate or severe cases of insurance, your insurance application may be accepted but at non-standard rates of premium.
